Location
Where is it?Penang is known as the Pearl of the Orient. The turtle shaped island is situated on the north-western coast of the Malay Peninsula at the entrance to the Straits of Malacca. The island and mainland are linked by the 13.5 km Penang Bridge , the third longest in the world, and a 24-hour ferry service. The urban centre is Georgetown .
The E&O is ¾ of an hour from the International Airport and located amongst the shops, bazaars, restaurants, temples and the highest concentration of colonial houses in the Orient.
How to get there?
There are direct flights from the UK to Penang with Malaysia Airlines (12 hours flight time) departing twice a week from London (Tuesday and Saturday) and indirect from Manchester via Kuala Lumpur (Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday). Or a one hour flight to Penang from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) daily.
