Location
Malaysia in South East Asia , is a safe and stable environment. The country is secular and has a long history of tolerance and peaceful co-habitation between the many cultures and tribes. The infrastructure is good, medical care excellent (even in Borneo ), accommodation and transportation second to none. It is, in other words, a perfect venue for expeditions.
Langkawi Island is a grouping of 104 beautiful tropical islands, 30 Km to the west of the Malaysian peninsular. It is our first stop and is designed to ease the participants into the experience, helping them recover from the ubiquitous jetlag. As it is 6°N of the equator the weather is constant, a mixture of sun and cloud, temperatures normally varying between 20°C and 30°C. It should be noted that all accommodation includes air conditioning.

Borneo is next on the schedule. It is a magical place that is the 3 rd largest island on earth; divided into Indonesia to the south, Malaysia to the north, with Brunei hugging the coast between the two Malaysian states of Sarawak and Sabah . The weather is tropical and steady, tending to be sunny during the morning with cloud building up throughout the afternoon until it rains hard and then is clear the rest of the day. Away from the coast, inland temperatures tend to be slightly higher, between 25°C and 32°C. Humidity is high. Monsoon rains last from November to March.

Borneo stirs images of thick jungle, mystical tribes and remote vastness. The areas into which we venture are far from being devoid of population and although road access is not possible, river ferries and helicopter access are well developed.
Our first port of call is in Kuching, the administrative capital of Sarawak and a unique and beautiful town. It is surrounded by wildlife reserves and spectacular coastline and a great place to view wildlife such as Orangutan, and hornbill, a most distinct and rare bird.
The Pelagus Rainforest is in the heart of the lowland Bornean Rainforest and a special place to be sure. It is where the Iban tribes live; the ex-headhunter tribes of legend. The accommodation is first rate and is built in the style of the Iban longhouse, complete with pool and showers. Again, all rooms have air conditioning so the warm, humid nights do not stop a good night's sleep.
Last stop is Kuala Lumpur , the capital of Malaysia . It is a well-developed large city and is home to the Petronas Twin Towers , for a while the tallest man-made structures in the world. The hotel here overlooks the Towers and is located centrally, close to the shopping. There will be no excuse for not buying gifts!
